Meet Derek

I'm Derek Hawn, and I'm excited to introduce myself as your candidate for State Representative. I believe in the power of our community to make positive change, and I'm committed to being your voice in the state legislature.

A Little About Me:

I was born and raised right here in our community. I went to school in Morgan County, all the way from pre-school to graduating from Central High School. I attended Roane State Community College where I obtained my Paramedic certification and licensure. I've seen the ups and downs we've faced, and I'm deeply invested in our future.

What has brought me closest to the people of the area has been my time serving as a Paramedic and as an ems educator. I have spent the majority of my career in EMS working in Morgan County. I have worked for Anderson County EMS and I currently work for Roane County EMS where I am the Clinical and Educational Coordinator. I have also worked for Roane State Community College, in-between my shifts on the ambulance, as a dual credit instructor in the High Schools.

I have really gotten to know many amazing people in this district because of my job. I have learned a lot from the people I serve. I have learned about their lives here in the area and the struggles that they face daily. I see daily where the healthcare system is failing us. I see where there can be improvements in the education system. I can see where we are all struggling with the current economy. I believe that Tennessee has what it takes to improve in all aspects of our lives.

My background in fire and emergency services, community involvement, and my love for our area have led me to this moment. I'm dedicated to family, an advocate for progress and for sustaining our heritage, and I'm running to represent you.

My Vision for Our Communities:

  1. Strong Economy: I believe in policies that promote economic growth and job creation. Our community deserves opportunities for stable, well-paying jobs, and I'll work tirelessly to make that a reality.

  2. Quality Education: Our children's education is a top priority. I'll fight for increased funding for our schools, better resources for teachers, and innovative solutions to ensure every child has access to a quality education.

  3. Healthcare for All: Access to affordable healthcare should be a right, not a privilege. I'll work to improve healthcare options, increase mental health resources, and make sure no one in our community is left behind.

  4. Environmental Stewardship: Our natural resources are precious. I'll support environmentally responsible policies that protect our land, air, and water, ensuring a healthy and sustainable future for generations to come.

  5. Community Safety: Public safety is paramount. I'll advocate for effective law enforcement and community-based programs that foster trust, reduce crime, and keep our neighborhoods safe.

  6. Accessible Government: I believe in open and transparent government. I'll make it a priority to listen to your concerns, engage in open dialogue, and keep you informed about the decisions that affect our lives.

I'm here to listen, to learn, and to collaborate with you. Your ideas, concerns, and hopes are essential in shaping our path forward. I am dedicated to providing solutions to the problems that face all of us. Far too often, our politicians look for ways to divide us, instead of focusing on the issues that we face, and the solutions we can and should be implementing.

We must work together and strive to create solid foundations for our future generations to come and to secure OUR ValuesOUR Culture, and OUR Way of Life.

Please join me in this journey toward a better future. Together, we can make a difference.

I am asking you to share your thoughts with me, either in person, by email (votederekhawn@gmail.com), or on my phone, 865-264-0757. I look forward to hearing from and working for you.
